Alpine Rock Fest cancelled, but €20 ski pass confirmed

Alpine Rock Fest 2014

alpine rock fest 2014The Alpine Rockfest in Andalo, in the Brenta Dolomites, scheduled for Tuesday, December 23, will not take place. Following an intense meeting between organizers Phil McNichol, Marco Dallapiccola, and the staff of the Paganella Ski Consortium, it emerged that the necessary conditions to guarantee athlete safety are not in place. The Olimpionica 2 slope is snow-covered, but the humidity of recent days and the high temperatures forecast through Christmas do not allow for setting up a race course meeting the criteria required to hold the 4 runs envisaged by the format.

“The philosophy of the event – explains race director Phil McNichol, a coach with twenty years of experience on the White Circus, having coached the US national alpine ski team – is based on two essential conditions: safeguarding the athletes and maintaining the high quality standard of the event, which currently do not exist. Since there are no slots available on the international calendar, the Alpine Rockfest will not be rescheduled”.

This decision was also shared with some of the invited athletes currently competing in the World Cup races in Alto Adige, such as Ted Ligety and Christof Innerhofer, as well as by the president of the Paganella Ski Consortium, Gianmaria Toscana: “The Alpine Rockfest – explains the head of the ski area – is a show event that must be staged only when optimal conditions are present, which current temperatures do not guarantee. Even so, Paganella awaits all ski enthusiasts on Tuesday, December 23 for a Christmas toast at the brand-new Rifugio Dosson.”

SKI AREA PROMOTIONS CONFIRMED FOR TUESDAY, DECEMBER 23

The Paganella slopes are in fact open, and the promotions offering a daily pass for just 20 euros for anyone wishing to ski on the Paganella on Tuesday the 23rd are confirmed—free for FISI members—along with free access for pedestrians on the gondola up to the mid-station to reach the mountain hut. Seven slopes are open and perfectly snow-covered: Olimpionica 3, Cacciatori 2, Panoramica, Tre-Tre Selletta, Salare, Scoiattolo, and Sant’Antonio.
