August Snow on the Glaciers, flakes down to 2,000 m

Right on cue with the forecast, the first snow has arrived and the glaciers have returned to full winter conditions.

The weather system arriving from the Baltic brought a significant temperature drop accompanied by heavy rainfall across the entire Alps, particularly in the northeast.
As forecast, snow has returned to blanket the glaciers after one of the hottest summers in recent years. From the 15 degrees recorded just a few weeks ago, temperatures dropped to -5° at 3,000 m, accompanied by substantial snowfalls.
Above 3,000 m, between 20 and 30 cm of fresh snow fell; from Passo Stelvio to the Presena Glacier, a white blanket has completely transformed the landscape.

Alongside the return of snow, the low temperatures recorded in the mountains also made headlines: 8 to 10 degrees at 1,000 m, and a snow line on the Adamello that dropped to 2,000 m, dusting the top stations of the Passo del Tonale lifts in white.

Abundant snow fell on all the northeastern glaciers, while only a light dusting reached the Aosta Valley, where heavy snow fell only on Plateau Rosà.

A taste of winter that has dispelled fears of an endless summer and rekindled the hearts of all snow lovers.
