It is being denounced by the tourism councillor Monica Borsotti, but in Bardonecchia it is a widely held opinion: the No TAV protests that have been going on for months have caused economic damage to a ski season already in difficulty because of the unusual winter. The protests have been going on for many months and, especially in recent weeks, they have caused considerable disruption to road traffic. In fact, the protesters have repeatedly occupied the A32 motorway, a vital road link for the Piedmontese ski area.
The councillor stresses that the protests and the clashes between protesters and police have created a difficult atmosphere throughout the valley, an atmosphere that is perceived by the tourists themselves, who often decide to head to other valleys, thus leaving Bardonecchia out of their ski tour. For an economy based largely on tourism, this disruption is significant: if the blockades on the A32 were to continue, the last weeks of Bardonecchia’s ski season could be compromised, making the balance sheets of the accommodation facilities even worse.
