snowfallStarting tonight (Wednesday, February 4), snow will return to the Italian mountains and beyond; the weather system reaching Italy has already been nicknamed Big Snow thanks to the heavy snowfalls forecast for the coming hours.

The north and the entire Alpine Arc will be the first protagonists of the new weather front, with snow accumulations of around 50 cm above 1,000-1,500 meters and snowfalls that will also reach the Po Valley, with snow expected even in cities across Piedmont, Lombardy, and Emilia.

Ski resorts will benefit from the snow, though snow accumulations will still be lower compared to rival resorts in the Apennines, where snow will fall even more heavily, aided by slightly higher temperatures.
In Central Italy there is no shortage of snow on the ski slopes thanks to the snowfalls that have dominated mountain days for several days now; nevertheless, it is here that Big Snow will deliver the most snow, with accumulations that could exceed one meter.

On Friday snowfalls will continue, but towards the evening the north will clear of clouds and return to fair skies, whereas in central and southern Italy snowfalls on the mountains will continue into the weekend.
