On January 25 and 26 in Valbruna (UD), the Ciaspolissima returns—a weekend dedicated to snowshoeing featuring both competitive and non-competitive snowshoe events organized by Lussarissimo ASD in collaboration with Baldas, Ferrino, and numerous local associations and institutions.
The program for the sixth edition includes a moonlight snowshoe walk on Saturday evening to enjoy a magical experience on the snow by the light of bonfires and torches, complete with music, stalls, and hot drinks.
On Sunday, alongside the snowshoe races and walks, there will be a dog trekking gathering. The competitive race will also serve as the Italian banking/insurance employees’ snowshoe running championship. Snowshoes can be rented on site.
Special rates, discounts, and prizes are available for participating groups, along with discounts at local hotels and restaurants.
All participants in Sunday’s Ciaspolissima will receive a race pack containing a personalized gift.
There will be numerous prizes for competitors in the competitive race and dog trekking event, prizes for groups of over 25 participants, and raffle prizes.
Last year over 500 people took part in the events, and victory in the competitive race went to Veneto’s Claudio Cassi of Team Baldas after a thrilling duel with Filippo Barizza, who yielded to the champion on the very technical final section of the course; third place went to Luca Lupieri of CAI Cim SAG Trieste. First among the women was Mirella Bergamo, finishing eighth overall ahead of Erica Tomat and Cristina Mujesan.
In the Dog trekking event, Giulia Della Zonca of CAI CIM Trieste won ahead of Micol Bubbini, with Renato Nardini in third.
A welcome new addition for Sunday, January 26 is the presence of sled dogs from the Vanisella kennel (exclusively dedicated to Siberian Huskies since 1986) and from A.I.M. (the Italian Mushers Association, Italy’s first sleddog club founded in 1985), who will set up two loops on which half a dozen teams will perform in various sled dog races and challenges. Also present will be European champion Diego Buranello, currently training for the demanding POLARDISTANS race taking place in Särna, Sweden from March 1 to March 7 over a 160 km course. Children will also have the opportunity to sit in the sleds and be pulled by the dogs along a short loop.
