After a few “scorching” weeks, temperatures are back to normal and the mountains can breathe again. Right now a new weather front is bringing snow to the Alps above 1,800/2,000 m. Since this weekend coincides with the Easter holidays, we’d like to suggest a few ski areas where you can find good snow for skiing or “snowboarding” over the weekend.
>> Aosta Valley
Forever the queen of spring, the Aosta Valley offers 2 ski areas where there is no shortage of snow and where the ski season is set to continue for several more weeks:
Cervinia
A classic spring skiing destination, offering consistently well-covered slopes and an extensive ski area. (update: 30 cm of fresh snow in the last few hours)
La Thuile
The Piccolo San Bernardo ski area (La Thuile’s other name) can still count on 60 open runs with a good 150 cm of snow at altitude (2,600 m a.s.l.)
>> Piedmont
In Piedmont the best-known ski resorts have already started closing their lifts, but there are still 2 destinations where the snow is holding up well:
Monterosa
The Piedmont side of the Monterosa Ski area is carrying on with its season thanks to its high-altitude runs. Snow cover here is good and more snow has fallen in the last few hours.
San Domenico
A little-known resort, but with slopes reaching 2,500 m it can guarantee runs that are always in top shape. Over the Easter weekend 12 of its 14 runs will be open
>> Lombardy
Lombardy offers several high-altitude ski resorts; right now, in our view, the best are:
Livigno
Little Tibet is still in the depths of winter thanks to its 2,000 m base altitude, and it is certainly one of the most popular destinations for skiing in April
Bormio
Livigno’s cousin and rival: here too the lifts are open and the runs enjoy excellent snow cover thanks to the link with Bormio 3000
>> Trentino Alto Adige
The homeland of winter tourism offers a wide choice, but of all its ski areas we recommend:
Val Senales
The Val Senales glacier is bringing its season forward and getting ready to welcome skiers a month earlier than last year. Snow cover is excellent and the snowpark is in perfect condition!
Adamello
Like the Val Senales glacier, the Presena Glacier also offers great snow and great runs, ideal for a holiday spent on skis.
Veneto and Friuli are the regions that have brought the end of the ski season forward the most; worth noting is the opening of the Marmolada Glacier until April 15, while in Friuli there is no guarantee of finding any lifts open over the Easter weekend.
But besides the destinations we recommend, there are several ski areas still open over the Easter weekend, including: Madonna di Campiglio, Cortina Faloria, Folgaria (Ortesino only), Skiarena Klausberg, Ski Area Valchiavenna, Pila, La Thuile, Racines Giovo, Via Lattea, Courmayeur, Plan de Corones, Val Gardena, Alpe di Siusi, Campo Felice.
