The frost that has characterized early December is set to leave us, but not before making its final contribution: a new snowfall in the plains.
After last week’s snowfalls, the weather system nicknamed “The Saint Lucy Snowfall” or “Juno” is now on its way. Clouds have already appeared over the northwest of the country, and by late afternoon the first snowflakes should start falling over northern Italy, blanketing cities such as Turin and Milan as well.
The night between Thursday, December 13 and Friday, December 14 will be marked by snowfalls spreading across the entire north, with heavier precipitation in the western sectors and lighter snow over Veneto and Friuli.
Friday will be the most intense day in terms of snowfall: in the morning, snow will reach the cities of Liguria, Piedmont, and Lombardy (Snow in Milan) and will continue to fall until evening, when temperatures will begin to rise, pushing the snow line up to hill altitudes.
The Scirocco wind will reach the northeast early on Friday, bringing a rise in temperatures that will then spread to the entire northern sector, pushing the snow level above 500m on Saturday as well, before the weather system fades away in the evening. Modest snow accumulations are forecast in the mountains, around 15-30cm of snow in the Alps, while in the Apennines snow will alternate with rain.
