Here we go again. Over the next few hours snow will return to the north, with widespread snowfall down to the plains and on the coasts; then the snow will move towards central and southern Italy, adding fresh accumulations to the snow that has already fallen abundantly in recent days.
Once again Italy finds itself in the grip of frost and snow, with a second Arctic front ready to bring snow, frost and Siberian wind across the whole of Italy. From the mountains to the cities, from north to south, this weather system will hit the country, bringing fresh heavy snowfall above all to central Italy, where in recent days the snow fell abundantly, reaching over 2 metres in many locations in the Apennines.
The weather alert will start tonight and continue until the beginning of next week. After the disruption caused by the last snowfall (which paralysed much of Italy and even Rome), the authorities have drawn up a snow emergency plan to deal with the new weather system on its way. In many cities the gritters have been at work for hours and the snowploughs are ready to do their job.
This weekend, too, will be marked by Siberian cold and heavy snowfall; remember that the requirement to carry snow chains is in force on almost all of the country’s main roads.
