On Friday we set off for Cortina for the Ski World Cup, but this time it wasn’t just a pleasure trip or simple reporting: this time we had been invited by the Milka team to attend the event as special guests.
An unconventional invitation with a top-secret agenda right up to the last minute; we didn’t really know what this trip to Cortina had in store for us, but we gladly accepted, intrigued by the veil of mystery surrounding this special invitation.
On Friday morning we left Padua and arrived at the hotel in Cortina at 2:00 p.m. sharp. The first surprise was the hotel itself: not a simple three-star but a fantastic 5-star overlooking the Tofane. A place with an old-world feel, with understated and very elegant luxury, able to welcome guests in a homely atmosphere. A quick but delicious lunch, and just a little time to unpack our suitcases before the first surprise arrived. Into the room overlooking the magnificent Olympia Tofane slope (the World Cup slope) walked Elena Curtoni, a very strong skier on our national team as well as one of the brightest prospects on the world skiing scene. With Elena we talked about the upcoming race, her World Cup debut, her first steps in the world of skiing, and also her second passion, art.
After meeting Elena we moved to the center of Cortina, where we attended the bib draw, an event livened up by the Cortina town band. In the evening, a fantastic “Milka”-themed dinner where we were able to taste typical local dishes and relax.
On Saturday, a quick breakfast and then off to the slopes to watch the World Cup race: what a spectacle to see the athletes coming down the fantastic Olympia slope, prepared specially by the technical staff.
The race was won by Italy’s Mereghetti, so a super experience, on top of the Italian pride.
In the afternoon we spent time with Isolde Kostner on Cortina’s magnificent slopes; the South Tyrolean skier was extremely kind and we had a lot of fun, and we also had the honor of having dinner with her!
Sunday opens with the wait for the new race, and we already know it will be fantastic!
