Mölltal Glacier: 2 slopes open while waiting for fresh snowfalls
by admin
The Mölltal glacier is known as one of the snowiest ski resorts in Austria; its altitude of 3,150 m and favorable location provide snow and freezing temperatures from early autumn through early summer. It boasts a skiable area of a full 71 km and a 7 km ski slope homologated for FIS races, along with plenty of runs suited to every skill level. The top station of the lifts houses a panoramic mountain restaurant offering a stunning view over the 30 peaks of the Hohe Tauern National Park, a mountain range that still preserves its wild, unspoiled character.
Here the ski season has already gotten underway with a partial opening of the lifts and 2 open slopes.
This partial opening of the Carinthian glacier is due to unfavorable weather conditions that have not yet brought significant snowfall at high altitude; temperatures are not ideal either, though the resort is hoping for a drop in temperatures so it can start its artificial snowmaking program and replenish a glacier sorely tested by a scorching summer.
