Plateau Rosà: Summer Skiing continues until Sunday, September 8

Plateau Rosà 2013

At the foot of the Matterhorn, summer skiing continues non-stop with snow and ski slopes in excellent condition. Plateau Rosà has become one of the last bastions for summer skiing in the Alps, its year-round quality guaranteed by an elevation that reaches 3,800 m here.

Summer 2013 certainly did not spare the glaciers: the greatest damage was caused by the wave of hot air that swept across Italy between late July and early August, bringing African heat to the entire peninsula. Nevertheless, Plateau Rosà was not overly affected by these challenging weather conditions—so much so that it was chosen by the Italian National Ski Team for training sessions prior to their departure for South America.

In recent days, moreover, snow has reappeared to refresh the ski area’s slopes, and temperatures have returned to average while still offering plenty of sunny days.
Plateau Rosà’s splendid summer season will continue non-stop until Sunday, September 8, 2013 (the final day of summer skiing); as usual, the glacier will then take a short rest before reopening around mid-autumn for the start of the winter season.
