where to go skiing

Plenty of fresh snow on the slopes, time to get back to skiing!

A full house is expected this weekend as well given the fantastic conditions in store: plenty of sun and plenty of fresh snow putting winter right where it belongs, with ski resorts in prime condition across the entire Alps.

The snow report leaves no room for doubt: snow conditions are excellent. In the Dolomites, snowfall has been abundant and ski areas above 1,000-1,200 meters can count on at least 40-50 cm of snow, while above 2,000 meters snow depths easily exceed one meter and top 2 meters in several resorts. Over the past few days, ski areas have worked flat out to groom the runs, and large crowds of skiers are now expected.
Beyond this weekend, a new month is about to begin: February, the best time for skiing and the most popular month for ski holidays (second only to Christmas). The second month of the year is a favorite among many skiers because it offers deep snow and longer daylight hours compared to November and December, while also giving many people the chance to enjoy a few days away nearly a month after the Christmas holidays.

By all accounts, this start to 2013 has saved the second half of the ski season, and the snowfalls have also enabled the reopening of snowparks, which suffered more than anything else from last year’s lack of snow. Now snow reserves are plentiful, and Snow and Fun Parks have opened their doors in many areas so snowboarders and freeskiers can have fun on jumps, rails, and boxes.
