Entries have been pouring in, bringing around 50 teams to the starting gate for Friday evening’s qualifiers and Saturday’s grand finale. The international Red Bull contingent looks especially formidable, led by 2011/12 FIS Ski Cross World Cup champion Filip Flisar of Slovenia, who claimed his 5th career World Cup win last December; Czech star Tomáš Kraus, two-time World Champion and veteran of the pro tour with 14 career victories; and Finland’s Jouni Pellinen, 2011 World Championship silver medalist. Equally competitive is Team ITALY, featuring Italian skicross icons Karl Heinz “Kalle” Molling and Max Iezza.
“It’s all about having a feel for speed and jumps. Skicross is an electrifying mix of technique, instinct, and boldness,” says Massimiliano, now head of the Skicross sector for the Italian Winter Sports Federation. “You have to know when to take risks and how to pace your strategy across the heats. And when you add the team factor, staying out in front means throwing your heart over every obstacle.”
Alongside high-flying action, the fast-paced, entertaining format promises plenty of thrills for both pros and amateurs in the field. At the moment, only a few spots remain available to enter the race via registration at redbullkronplatzcross.it.
The top three pro teams will take home cash prize money as well as prizes provided by event partners GoPro and Völkl. Great prizes also await the top three amateur teams, who will win sponsor gear and VIP invitations to Red Bull 2013 events.
