It is one of the most eagerly awaited moments of Skipass, the kind that gets the adrenaline pumping as everyone waits for the verdict: the White Mountain Awards (Awards della Montagna Bianca), a ModenaFiere project in collaboration with the MOON agency, presented each year at Skipass to honor the best Italian snowparks, snowboarders, and freeskiers of the year.
Once again this year, top snow sports ambassadors gathered at Skipass to crown the winners who best represent their disciplines in Italy and beyond.
Starting with the Italian Freeski Awards, the awards for Best Male Freeskier and Best Performance went to Yuri Silvestri, a member of the 2015 Best Freeski Team: K2 Skis. Best Female went to Olympian Silvia Bertagna, while Ralph Welponer took home the Best Rookie award. National team coach Valentino Mori was named Best Ambassador in the freeski world, and the Nine Knights at Mottolino Livigno once again won Best Event in Italy.
At the Snowboard Awards, Simon Gruber triumphed as Best Male Snowboarder (and Best Performance), while Piedmont’s Maria Delfina “Bibi” Maiocco topped the women’s vote. Mottolino Livigno also took home the award for Best Event in Italy with the Nine Knights. A special honorable mention at the Snowboard Awards went to the Fulvio Cimarolli Committee for its fundraising efforts in the fight against ALS.
At the Snowpark Awards, the Alpe di Siusi Snowpark SeiserAlm triumphed as Best Park, Best Jib Line, and Best Pro Line. Livigno’s Mottolino Snowpark matched that tally with three awards: Best Beginners Park, Best Marketing, and Best Special Obstacle. Monte Cimone was named Best Snowpark in Central and Southern Italy, while a special Honorable Mention was presented to Prato Nevoso for its consistency and dedication over more than 20 years of operating its snowpark.
At the Freeride Awards, Bruno Mottini won both Male Freerider of the Year and Best Performance, while the 2015 women’s crown went to Silvia Moser, who represented Italy on the prestigious Freeride World Tour in 2015 and even won a stage. Skieda took home the award for Best Freeride Event, while Riky Felderer was once again named Best Freeride Photographer. Livigno won Best Freeride Location, Paolo Tassi was named Best Freeride Coach, Best Safety Act went to Progetto Icaro, and “I diari del Brac” won Best Sport Project.
