Snow above 2,000 metres in the north-eastern Alps

The long-awaited snowfall that was supposed to save the start of the ski season has not arrived yet. The forecasts spoke of snow at the weekend above 1,200 m, but after just a few days the projections changed radically. The result: the sun is shining over the Aosta Valley, just as in Piedmont and Lombardy. The only places where a bit of snow has arrived are those in the north-east, in particular Trentino Alto Adige.

The snow level settled above 2,000 metres, with light snowfall that is nonetheless important (given the situation). Waking up under a white blanket were the Grostè of Madonna di Campiglio, the slopes of the Adamello Ski area above 2,000/2,200 m, the summit of the Paganella plateau, Plan de Corones and San Martino di Castrozza. Snow also fell on the mountains of Veneto, again above 2,000 m, with snow on Cortina (5 torri, Cristallo) and on the Marmolada.
It is not a heavy snowfall; on the contrary, in most resorts the snow has only lightly covered the ground. However, about 5 cm has been measured on the Grostè.

The sun should be shining again within the next few hours and no new showers are forecast, apart from isolated ones in a few areas.
The question mark over the Immaculate Conception long weekend remains, but the forecasts see no snowfall on the way: all we can do is hope for a miracle!
