Snowfall: 1 metre of fresh snow on the Presena | Cervinia brings forward its opening

The weather front that in recent days has caused serious floods and landslides is about to leave the country; while it brought devastation to the lowlands, at high altitude it brought abundant snow.
The snowfall at first affected the mountains above 2,500 cm, with scant accumulations and wet snow, then the snow line dropped to 2,000 m with heavier snowfall across the whole of the Alps.
The mountains most affected by the front were those of the north-western Alps, with abundant snow on the Matterhorn and Monterosa. The Cervinia ski area is grateful and brings forward its opening to Friday, November 11 thanks to over 50 cm of fresh snow that fell on Plan Maison. Good news also for the ski resorts of Piedmont, in particular the Freerideparadise Alagna Valsesia ski area, which is enjoying the snowfall, recording 130 cm at the Passo dei Salati (2,940 m) – 20 cm at Pianalunga (2,050 m) and even the first snow at around 1,500 m.

The snowfall also affected Trentino Alto Adige, where the snow reached altitudes below 1,800 m and significant accumulations were recorded from 2,000 m upwards.
Good news for the Grostè in Madonna di Campiglio, where over 30 cm of fresh snow has fallen in the last few hours, and good news too on the Adamello, with almost 10 cm of snow at the Passo del Tonale and Valbiolo (2,200 m). But best of all is the Ghiacciaio Presena, which thanks to its high altitude (3,000 m) has received a good 100 cm of fresh snow, bringing the total to over 2 metres of snow. A record snowfall that forced the lifts to close because of too much snow, but which will give the groomer drivers the chance to work the slopes and prepare them as well as possible for the start of the season. So much snow has fallen on the Adamello peaks that the Adamello Ski area might also open the Presena-Paradiso slope.
