Ski lift opening: winter in Stubai begins on October 13

On the Stubai Glacier, in Austrian Tyrol, just a few kilometers from the Italian border at the Brenner Pass: on October 13 and 14, Austria’s largest skiable glacier will inaugurate the winter season (which in truth already begins here in September, depending on snow conditions) with a grand ‘Ski Oktoberfest‘.

A faithful recreation of the Bavarian festival on the eternal snows, the Stubai Valley Oktoberfest has become an early-season tradition, and this year skiers will be welcomed by two new lifts. The old four-passenger Rotadl gondola is being replaced by an 8-seater chairlift with upholstered seats, and the 4-seater Daunjoch chairlift will go into operation, designed to expand the skiable terrain thanks to the new Black Daunhill run, a 3.2-kilometer black slope with a 60% gradient descending the flanks of the Daunjoch down to the valley.

Stubai will be one of the very first ski destinations to open its doors for the 2012/13 winter season and will operate non-stop until early summer thanks to a glacier that offers abundant snow late into the spring.

Furthermore, the snowfalls of recent weeks will supply plenty of fresh snow for the ski slopes of the Austrian resort.
