Abundant snow triggers lift openings in the Apennines

Apennines ski lift opening

apennines ski lifts openingWhile splendid sunshine bathes the Alps and days are marked by freezing temperatures, in the Apennines of central Italy snow continues to fall heavily, blanketing the ski resorts in white.
The storm system that dumped a full 100 cm of snow on the Alps did not spare the Apennines, leaving just as much snow on the ground.
Hit by a white front stretching from Emilia to Abruzzo, the snowfalls have made it possible to bring forward the preparation of the ski slopes.
Thanks to favorable snow conditions, several ski areas will start their season early, with lift openings scheduled as early as Saturday, November 30.

Emilia-Romagna ski areas

There are 3 ski areas ready to get underway: Monte Cimone, Cerreto Laghi, and Corno alle Scale.
Snow conditions are optimal: just like in the Alps, snow arrived here last week and freezing temperatures now reign supreme. For all three ski resorts mentioned, ski lifts are scheduled to open on Saturday, November 30.

Tuscany ski areas

In Tuscany the ski season has already begun with the opening of Abetone last Saturday. The Ovovia gondola and Pulicchio chairlift are already open to skiers, and by Saturday, November 30 the Val di Luce and Selletta areas are also expected to open.
Slopes are also open at the Doganaccia 2000 resort near Abetone: this ski area has already opened its lifts thanks to good natural snow cover and sub-zero temperatures that allowed programmed snowmaking to get underway.

Abruzzo ski areas

Turning our gaze toward central Italy, we find the ski areas of Abruzzo, where the storm system that brought snow to the Alps in recent days is still raging. Here it continues to snow relentlessly, and snow accumulations on these mountains have now become substantial, approaching one meter in depth.

The abundant snow has made it possible to schedule the opening of the ski lifts, as the two most renowned resorts, Ovindoli and Roccaraso, prepare to welcome the first skiers.

In Roccaraso, the Pallottieri lift, handle tow, and Gravare Corte are scheduled to open starting Thursday, November 28, with additional areas potentially opening if weather conditions permit.

In Ovindoli, the season will begin on Friday, November 29; here too there is no shortage of snow, and the season will get underway with excellent snow cover across the entire ski area.
