A new Atlantic front is arriving from the northwest, pushing southward the high-pressure system currently dominating Italy.
On Friday, snow will return to the Alpine arc, initially with snowfall at 3,000 m before gradually dropping over the following days to nearly 1,100 m. The first ski resorts affected by this new weather system will be those in Aosta Valley, where snow is expected from late on November 8 around 2,500 m; on Saturday, the snow line will drop to 2,000 m before reaching 1,300 m overnight between Saturday and Sunday.
While snowfall will initially affect only the glaciers, temperatures will begin to plummet on Saturday, sending the snow line into a “downhill race.”
Across the central and eastern Alps, snow will arrive at higher elevations, as the temperature drop there will start in late Saturday morning, keeping the snow line above 2,300 meters until Saturday night.
Snowfall is possible at 1,300-1,500 m on Sunday morning as the system gradually clears.
First snow for the Apennine resorts
The blast of Arctic air forecast for Sunday, November 10 will bring the first snowflakes to the Apennine mountain range. The resorts affected by the snowfall will be those in Emilia Romagna, while the other regions will have to wait several more weeks to see their first snow.
For the “Big Snow” we will have to wait a while longer—General Winter is still nowhere in sight.
