Snow on the way to the Alps, Heavy Snowfalls forecast above 1,800 m

November snow

november snowArriving from the north-west is the first weather system of November, which will bring snow back to the Alps starting Tuesday, November 4.
This North Atlantic front will first affect the regions of Aosta Valley and Piedmont before expanding to the north-east and lingering over the Alpine Arc until the weekend.
Unlike the first snowstorm of the season, this time snowfalls will be heavy especially at higher altitudes; moreover, the snowfalls will last for several days, particularly affecting all high-altitude resorts and especially the glaciers.
Heavy snowfalls are expected across the entire Alpine arc, though with a higher snow line: flakes will fall only down to 1,800 m, and heavy snow will accumulate starting from 2,000-2,200 meters of altitude, as this weather system comes with slightly rising temperatures.

Snow depth will exceed one meter

The ski season at Solda and the Presena Glacier has not started yet, and the delayed opening is being felt at the start of this 2014/15 season; there has been no significant snowfall so far, but it seems to be only a matter of hours for the two Italian ski destinations.
While rain will accompany the entire week in the valleys, Italian glaciers and the highest ski resorts are getting ready to welcome the first real snow, which will fall heavily over the coming days.
Once the storm has passed over the Alps, there will be over 1 meter of fresh snow, particularly above 2,500 m and in the north-western sectors.
This storm will bring the snow needed to open the ski resorts whose openings have been delayed due to lack of snow, though because of the high snow line it will not allow an early start to the ski season at medium altitudes.
