Night-time events are becoming a real “must” that no ski resort can do without. The atmosphere of a starry sky and the reflection of the moonlight on the snow mean that events of this kind, whether competitive or not, are attracting ever more spectators and participants. You break away from the routine: there are new rules and new characters.
But in the Adamello they have long known the charm of these events, so much so that they can now celebrate 18 years of the Lunarally, the historic event dedicated to ski mountaineering.
For the 2011 edition, on Saturday March 19, the organisers have pulled out all the stops, and hundreds of athletes from all over Italy and Europe are expected at the starting line.
811 metres of vertical gain, 8,400 km in length and 700 torches lighting up the course: these are some of the Lunarally’s numbers.
The course climbs up the Valle Albiolo to the Cima Tonale Occidentale, and from there descends towards Capanna Bleis.
You will be able to register directly on the evening of the race (€25), and the number of competitors will be limited to 500 athletes; once that number is reached, registrations will close.
The Lunarally means fun on the snow and fun at the table: before the prize-giving there will be a group spaghetti dinner, which is sure to be greatly appreciated by all the competitors!
The added value of this event is charity: for every registered athlete, €1 will be donated to the projects of Father Franco Odorizzi, a missionary in Chile. One more reason to take part!
