The idea for Snow 4 All came from Tommaso Balasso, guide to the visually impaired athlete Gianmaria Dal Maistro, Olympic champion at the Turin 2006 Paralympic Games.
Together with the association Scie di Passione, Tommaso and the whole staff decided to create an event dedicated to the world of skiing for disabled athletes of any level. This is how the SNOW4ALL Disabled Ski Cup took shape: a touring circuit of Giant Slalom races offering two types of competition:
» PRO CUP: reserved for disabled athletes with racing experience
» NEW CUP: reserved for disabled skiers who are approaching competitive racing and who will compete on an easier course and slope.
A multi-stage event across the ski areas chosen by the Scientific Committee of Scie di Passione through the “Accessibility Tour” it carried out to identify the resorts boasting the best accessibility standards, among them Folgaria (TN), Passo Rolle (TN), Pampeago (TN), Falcade (TN) and Passo Brocon (TN).
The first stage of Snow4All will take place in Folgaria(Trentino Alto Adige) on Sunday, January 8 at Fondo Grande, where the athletes will race on the Salizzona red run, which will be suitably prepared for the PRO CUP (reserved for disabled athletes with racing experience). Youngsters with no racing experience behind them will instead take part in the NEW CUP, on a course set up in the Fondo Grande nursery area.
This is the first time an event has been organised for differently-abled youngsters with no racing experience, so it is an opportunity for many of them to begin discovering these disciplines and to find out that snow really is within everyone’s reach.
A big celebration is expected in Folgaria: many athletes and fans have arranged to meet on Sunday, January 8 on the slopes of Fondo Grande. Plenty of athletes have already confirmed their attendance, and it is still possible to register to take part in SNOW4ALL in Folgaria.
