ALTA QUOTA 2012, taking place at the Bergamo Exhibition Center from October 12 to 14, promises to be an edition packed with major new features introduced to promote the entire high-altitude tourism and outdoor sports sector in the best possible way.

Across the three days of free admission, visitors will be able to discover the latest offerings from over 150 brands, including technical gear companies and Italian and foreign tourist boards: alongside the major Italian ski resorts will be 10 international destinations (from France, Switzerland, Austria, and Belgium) presenting their ski packages for the 2012/2013 winter season.

Among the numerous exhibition booths, a new themed area will promote Eco & Organic outdoor tourism. Ente Fiera Promoberg has decided to dedicate a major portion of floor space to organizations—public bodies, associations, and for-profit or non-profit enterprises—involved in green tourism. Examples include parks and nature reserves, associations that guide outdoor enthusiasts in discovering ecotourism, tour operators specializing in Eco and Organic outdoor travel, and “green” hospitality facilities (such as bio-hotels)—environmentally sustainable establishments serving organic, zero-mile, and biodegradable products in full respect of the surrounding environment.

ALTA QUOTA is “the mountains experienced 360°”, and the mountaineering area—perhaps the most traditional and widespread expression of outdoor sport—will host, as an Italian premiere, the products honored with the “GOLD awards in the OutDoor INDUSTRY AWARD 2012” at “OutDoor” in Friedrichshafen (Germany), the world’s most renowned industry trade fair.

Also strongly represented will be the alpine skiing sector, featuring the participation of the leading suppliers to the Italian National Ski Team.

ALTA QUOTA 2012 also offers visitors the opportunity to meet and get to know in person some of the top mountaineers at the national and European levels. Coming to the Bergamo Exhibition Center this year will be Denis Urubko, Simone Moro’s partner on many memorable ascents, and Mario Panzeri, who entered mountaineering history as one of only three Italians (the other two being Reinhold Messner and Silvio “Gnaro” Mondinelli) to summit all 14 of the Earth’s “eight-thousanders”. Also on the talk schedule is the official presentation of the “Ski Mountaineering World Cup” with the participation of the international federation ISMF.

Especially rich is the events calendar unfolding across a 4,000 sq m area, which will host contests, exhibitions, and free demos for all visitors. The Outdoor Arena will feature an approximately 200 m dirt track for sky/trail running and mountain biking, as well as trial areas for Orienteering and Nordic Walking, joined for 2012 by Slacklining.

The freestyle lineup will once again be packed with adrenaline and entertainment: Rail Contest Vol. VII, with a €3,000 prize purse, will see snowboarders and skiers go head-to-head amid the infectious enthusiasm of the New School crew, while in a specially set-up area the Big Air Bag and its 12 m tower will allow everyone to try out aerial tricks in complete safety.
